I've used Pharma Nord's Bio-Quinone Q10 for many years and also had very positive feedback when I've recommended it to others. I think it's a great product but I'm always surprised at how few people have heard about it. So here's a brief overview:
Bio-Quinone Q10 is the brand name for an important nutrient-like substance known as Co-enzyme Q10. Co-enzyme Q10 has excellent antioxidant properties, helping to protect cells from damage by free radicals, and is a nutrient essential for energy production, being the vital spark required to fire up the tiny but powerful energy production plant (mitochondrion) inside each cell. You may be interested to know that Q10 is also recognised as a helpful treatment for gum disease and I always recommend it to anyone who suffers with gingivitis or periodontitis (a condition of loose teeth).
Because Co-enzyme Q10 is found throughout the cellular structure of the body, this makes it ubiquitous (found everywhere), hence one of its many names, ubiquinone. It's full chemical name is 2,3-dimethoxy-5-methyl-6-decaprenyl-1,4-benzoquinone, which is a good reason for shortening it to Vitamin Q. But mostly, it's known as Q10 or quinone (not quinine, which is something entirely different).
I would certainly recommend that anyone taking statins (often referred to as 'cholesterol-lowering' drugs) to discuss the use of Co-enzyme Q10 with their GP or hospital consultant. That’s because statins are known to lower the levels of this important nutrient which is essential for a healthy heart. A daily supplement of CoQ10 could be especially important for anyone over 65 as well as being of value for people with the type of high cholesterol which runs in families, known as familial hypercholesterolemia. But do make sure you choose a top quality brand that contains at least 30mg of Co-enzyme Q10. Low dose products or supplements that contain just a few milligrams of Q10 are, in my experience, simply not effective. So do talk to your doctor. ALSO WELL WORTH CONSIDERING is Q10 Ubiquinol. This BioActive form of Q10 may be useful to anyone suffering poor digestion as it is a more easily absorbable type of Co-enzyme Q10. I'd definitely recommend it in the case of long term digestive problems, in Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, where there is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, to people taking statins and to anyone over the age of 65, when digestion isn't always at its most efficient.
