Moved house at the end of September and only just surfacing after weeks of living in a kind of builders’ dustbowl so many apologies for the delay in answering this post from Mary Anne who makes a really sensible and helpful point to do with the Olive and Sun-Dried Tomato yeast-free bread recipe. I recommended that the olive and sun-dried tomato version is great with cheese – and it most certainly is - but I should have made it clear that this would not apply to anyone who was following my food combining options. Sorry if I confused you. Maybe I should also say that just because I have found food combining to be so brilliant for helping digestive and bowel disorders, this doesn’t mean that the whole site is dedicated to food combining or even that it works for every condition. Of course it doesn’t. There are lots of other diet ideas to enjoy apart from separating proteins and starches. But where the gut is misbehaving or the bowels are either sluggish or over-active, food combining has a terrific track record of success. Anyhow, thanks again Mary Anne for your comments. I wish you much better soon. Do please let me know how you get on.
Just uploaded, my new pages on How to Beat the Bloat. For anyone who has problems with gas, wheat belly and weight gain.
I've had a note this week from Tracy who has lost her copy of All Day Energy and wants to know how to replace it and says she can't find it on the Internet. Thanks so much for your encouraging comments, Tracy. I really appreciate them. Although still available for sale in some countries, including Australia, All Day Energy is sadly no longer in print in the UK. But I know there are some penny copies on Amazon which, literally, cost one UK penny plus postage so worth looking there. Just punch in All Day Energy Kathryn Marsden and up it comes. This applies to anyone who is looking for bargain books. And also well worth scouting around your local library which, of course is completely free. I'm with Jamie Oliver on this one and have donated a ton of my books to libraries. Check out your local library first. It's a great way to get reading and costs nothing. In the event that they can't help you, then may I suggest that - instead - you ask to borrow a copy of my book, The Complete Book of Food Combining. It's easy to follow and a good resource for anyone trying to lose weight. Oh and whilst writing, sorry I haven't got around to uploading the hummus recipe I told you about on this page. I am on the case but am in the middle of moving house, office, cats etc. and will be without an Internet connection for several weeks. Watch this space.
I'm adding new information to the site all the time but the only way I'm going to know if it's what you want to read is to ask for your feedback, so blog me and tell me what you think. Your opinion matters. If there are any nutrition and health subjects you would like me to cover then let's have your suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Just off to make healthy home-made hummus. I have a fab recipe. Anyone like to know it? Tell me.
Huh? What? Did I read that right? I found this question in the search stats for my website and I just had to do a quick blog to say 'NO, don't go there, please don't go there!' This is not the first time I've come across this and similar questions. It happens a lot with patients who think that they're protected by their medication. Diet is important too, guys. In my feature article on Cholesterol & Medication, I tell the story of someone who thought they could eat what they liked because they were taking their 'magic pills'. Well they are NOT magic pills. Statins might be helpful in certain cases but some experts think that this is an over-used and over-rated drug. Check out Cholesterol & Medication and the associated diet links to find out more.
If you need to lose weight or are looking for things to eat to lose weight, check out my EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN and a special feature on HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS. Updated today with lots of super sneaky shortcuts to success.
One of my favourite fibre providers is a product called Lepicol. It certainly gets my 5 star rating. A really soothing fibre for IBS sufferers but also a healthy addition to any diet, Lepicol is a gentle mixture of psyllium husk fibre and beneficial gut flora that helps to ease bloating, relieve constipation and clean out accumulated waste. I'd also highly recommend it to patients who are trying to lose weight. If you've not heard about it, I urge you to go to Facts About Fibre and read more.
If you're struggling to deal with elevated cholesterol and/or are taking statins, this update should be of interest. Click here to read Cholesterol & Statins
Uploaded today is a feature article on caring for the nails, hands and feet. Click the link to go straight to it. Contains a whole list of hints and tips on how to deal with nail and skin problems plus my own recommendations as to great nail and hand care products.
It's more than two years since I started to build this website and, from the looks of the hit counter, it has become far more successful than I ever expected. And numbers are climbing all the time so if you are contributing to that, then big thanks. It was only when I retired from full time clinic work that I found time to set up the site but it has been great fun to do and a real learning curve. If you're wondering why there are no contact details, well that's simply because I was getting over a hundred messages a week, all asking for free advice and whilst I am delighted to try and help, the quantity of work involved was so overwhelming, I had to pull the plug and say no to any more enquiries. In any event, I would only rarely take on a new patient without a doctor's referral because of the importance of having a full medical history. The site is not-for-profit - it was never my intention to make any money from it - and whilst I've always supported patients who couldn't afford treatment, sadly I simply don't have the resources to cope with a constantly overloaded Inbox or to reply to so many Posts. But that's given me the time to add a lot more to the website. So far, I've included a selection of health articles (new ones being prepared all the time) along with recommendations for any products I've tried and found to be helpful and which I hope you will find helpful too. Thanks so much for visiting.
